Boho Blooms Sympathy Card Trio

Today’s cards are all about creating a trio of Unity Stamp Company Boho Blooms sympathy cards. These lovely blooms are perfect for creating a set of cards for all occasions including sympathy. I’m getting messy with a rustic mixed media look to compliment the style of the flowers.

Pink Rose

The Black Friday deals got me and I purchased all the Distress Watercolor Pencils. I love having all the different mediums in all the Distress range of colors. I had to break them in using the new Boho Blooms stamp set for a set of sympathy cards.

Each flower is stamped on watercolor paper using Versafine waterproof ink. Next, I selected two tones of each color to paint with. The pencils are very easy to use by coloring a small amount and then using a waterbrush to wet and push the color around. I allowed the watercolor to dry and then added more color if necessary.

If you are a follower, you may already know I love to watercolor with my Distress Inks. Do I think the watercolor pencils are necessary? Maybe not… but I am happy to have them. The pencils have an almost chalky opaque look that is similar to Distress Oxides. It will be fun to have both mediums to layer for different effects.

Teal Daisy

Once all the flowers were colored and dried, I trimmed them down to 2.25″ and matted them with cardstock using the Scallops & Squares dies. The black helps to frame them and then the coordinating color cardstock makes the watercolor pop.

Purple Tulip

I wanted all the rustic grunge things with layers of ink and texture. Each background is ink smooshed with Distress Inks and a coordinating Distress Oxide ink, then sprayed with Resist Spray, and finally stamped with the Small Details background.

The sentiments were stamped on white cardstock in a coordinating color and then gently ink blended over the top with Vintage Photo to age it.

All the edges were roughed up with scissors to complete that distressed look. Before layering everything up, I rubbed the Vintage Photo ink cube around the edges of the card base. The background had a lot of rough edges and tears so I wanted to hide the stark white color of the card base.
