Botanical

I’ll be honest, when the Fanatical About Botanical challenge in the Moxie Fab World went up, I thought to myself, “What the heck is botanical?”  That is definitely not a style I was familiar with and thought really long and hard about how to go about it.  It did not come naturally.  Ha.  No pun intended.  My short description of botanical is to think of ‘realistic’ drawings that were used to identify and categorize plants and animals.

I literally had to go through EVERY stamp set I own to get some sort of inspiration.  At last I came upon Be Still and the heavens parted.  An amazing light shone down directly onto my print sheet.  Ok seriously, not that dramatic, but I did exclaim, “that’s it” and nearly scared my dozing hubby half to death.

As you can see I focused on the butterfly image.  I only wanted a slight bit of color, therefore only one is in its blue beauty.  Realistic, eh, maybe.  My pencil work isn’t that sophisticated, but I thought it looked perty.  I wanted something subtle going on in the background, so I embossed the black label with a script embossing folder.

Well, this is my first ‘knowledgeable’ attempt at botanical.  I may have done this style before without knowing it, but we won’t count that.  ha.

Hope your weekend is going swimmingly.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

stamps: Be Still {Unity}
cardstock: beetle black, kraft {Bazzill}
ink: colored pencils {Prismacolor}

    Love that you colored only 1 butterfly! Making the background neutral lets the butterfly really pop. Your card has a lovely vintage feel to it.

    Hee hee! I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who didn’t know what the “botanical style” was. Your card is so stunning! The blue butterfly is mighty pretty! Awesome take on the challenge.
